BELEM, Brazil — Canada had advanced to its third straight finals appearance at the FIBA under-16 Americas Championship.

Caleb Houstan led with 29 points as the Canadians beat the Dominican Republic 97-81 on Saturday in the tournament semifinal.

Houstan set a new record for points in a game by a Canadian at the U16 Americas. Earlier in the week, Houstan tied the previous record of 28 points, which was held by Kevin Pangos (2009 vs. Venezuela), in Canada's 90-67 win over Brazil.

Ryan Nembhard added 19 points and 12 assists, while Shaedon Sharpe had 17 points.

Jean Montero had a team high 29 points for the Dominican Republic.

This is Canada's sixth appearance since the FIBA U16 Americas Championship began in 2009, with the country medalling in each of their previous five tournaments including back-to-back silvers after losses to the United States.

Canada will face either the United States or Argentina in Sunday's championship.

Canada has also qualified for the FIBA U17 World Cup 2020 by reaching the final four in Brazil.
