TORONTO — Torstar Corp. has signed a deal to acquire the publishing and exclusive theatre distribution rights of Cineplex Magazine.

The deal with Cineplex Inc. will see Torstar continue to publish both print and digital versions the magazine under the brand Star Cineplex.

Financial terms of the partnership agreement were not immediately available.

Cineplex CEO Ellis Jacob says the magazine will continue to be available for free at theatres and will reach even more Canadians with expanded digital publications.

Cineplex theatres across the country have largely remained closed during the pandemic, while those that have reopened have done so under limited capacity restrictions.

The movie theatre company reached a deal with its lenders earlier this year to further amend its credit agreement as it struggles through the financial impact of the COVID-19 virus on its operations.
