TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Trade data

Statistics Canada will release its latest snapshot of Canada's merchandise trade balance for June on Tuesday. Economists will be watching the trade figures to gauge the continued impact of the Canada-U.S. trade dispute.

Air Canada strike vote ends

The voting period for unionized Air Canada flight attendants on a strike mandate ends on Tuesday. The Canadian Union of Public Employees, which represents more than 10,000 Air Canada flight attendants, has been in contract talks with the airline since the start of the year.

Housing

Home sales reports are expected next week that will show how real estate markets in Canada's largest cities fared in July. Greater Vancouver Realtors is expected to release its July housing data on Tuesday, while the Toronto Regional Real Estate Board is expected to report home sales figures on Wednesday.

Earnings

Earnings reports will continue to roll in next week. Among some of the bigger names include Suncor Energy Inc. reporting its second-quarter earnings on Tuesday after markets close. Restaurant Brands International Inc., BCE Inc. and Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. are set to release their results on Thursday.

Jobs

Statistics Canada will release its labour force survey for July on Friday. The national unemployment rate ticked down to 6.9 per cent in June as employers added a surprisingly robust 83,000 jobs.
