MOOSE JAW -- The Saskatoon Berries knew reigning Western Canadian Baseball League rookie of the year Carter Beck would be an impact player when he returned to the team this spring, but even they have to be surprised with what he’s put together in his first two games back.
One game after scoring four runs in his 2025 debut with the Berries, Beck slammed three home runs to lead Saskatoon to a 22-4 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express in Moose Jaw on Friday night.
The Regina Red Sox didn’t have the offensive fireworks but also hit the win column, defeating the Swift Current 57’s 5-0 in Swift Current.
Saskatoon 22, Moose Jaw 4
All told, Beck finished with a 3-for-3 night that included five runs scored, seven runs batted in and three walks and is now hitting .625 on the season with a ridiculous 2.750 on-base-plus-slugging percentage in 12 plate appearances.
Beck wasn’t the only one sending the ball out of Ross Wells Park, as Saskatoon would hit eight home runs on the night -- and that led to the score getting out of hand quickly, with the Berries leading 10-2 through three, 17-2 through five and 22-2 after seven innings.
Ethan Murdoch hit two round trippers and was 3-for-5 with three runs and six RBI, while Mason Roell, Bailyn Sorensen and Corey Wouters all had one home run apiece. Wouters and Abiam Medina added three runs each.
Will Edwards led Moose Jaw with a 2-for-5 night that included two doubles and a pair of runs, while Jackson Yeager was 3-for-5 with two RBI.
Matthias Trondson got the start for the Berries and allowed two runs on four hits over three innings before Turner Zdunich, Alex Chumrau and Carson Obrecht combined to shut Moose Jaw down until the ninth.
As for the Miller Express pitching, the less said is better, with starter Kaden Noble taking the loss after giving up five runs on three hits and six walks.
Saskatoon is now 6-1 and in first place in the East Division, Moose Jaw fell to 3-4 and are in fourth.
Saskatoon is back on the field Saturday night in Swift Current, Moose Jaw hosts Brooks for the first of two games at home. Both start times are 7 p.m.
Regina 5, Swift Current 0
The Red Sox scored a pair of runs in the third and led 3-0 through four, and with the way their pitching staff was going that would be more than enough to secure the win.
Colton Anderson would toss five shutout innings to earn the win, giving up four runs on three walks while striking out seven and Ayden Page was nearly his equal in effectiveness, giving up two hits and striking out five in four innings of work.
Riley Bender led Regina at the plate with a 2-for-4 night that included a double and two RBI, Jordan Tucker had a home run as his only hit and knocked in a pair.
Casey Prychak, Luis Ayala and Jose Ayala each had two hits each for the 57’s.
Luke Reasor started for Swift Current and allowed three runs on five hits in three innings before giving way to Brodrick Bornstein, who gave up a single hit over the next four frames. Braxton Vail closed things out and allowed a pair of runs.
The Red Sox improved to 5-2 and are third in the East, Swift Current remains winless at 0-8.
Regina is back in action on Saturday night when they host Fort McMurray, with first pitch at 7 p.m.
