Warriors' Zabransky named to Czech World Junior camp, Tribe acquire Hartje from Winnipeg

Zabransky among nine WHL players named to camp roster, Hartje makes return after starting career with Tribe
The Moose Jaw Warriors may have one of their own playing at the World Junior Hockey championship after all.

After being shut out when Team Canada announced their selection camp roster last week, it was announced Thursday afternoon that Warriors defenceman Libor Zabransky was one of nine Western Hockey League players invited to training camp for Team Czech Republic.

The 19-year-old product of Brno has been a mainstay on national teams for the Czech Republic since suiting up for the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and will be looking to crack the U-20 roster for the first time.

Zabransky was acquired by the Warriors in a trade with the Saskatoon Blades on Nov. 6 and has a goal and three assists in nine games with the Tribe to go along with two goals and nine points in 25 games on the season.

The 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship will be held in Ostrava and Třinec, Czech Republic from Thursday, Dec. 26 to Sunday, Jan. 5.

Welcome back, Chase Hartje.

The Warriors announced Tuesday that they had acquired the 20-year-old defenceman off waivers from the Winnipeg Ice, bringing the Bemidji, Minn. product full circle in his WHL hockey career.

“We are very pleased to welcome Chase back to our hockey club,” Warriors general manager Alan Millar said announcing the trade. “Chase is a smart player with good skills and is an excellent skater. With the injury to Daemon Hunt, Chase is an important addition to our team with his experience and skill set.”

Hunt suffered a serious cut to his arm on Tuesday in Edmonton and is expected to miss substantial time after having surgery to repair the damage.

Hartje signed with the Warriors out of Bemidji high school back in 2017 and put up 17 assists in 31 games before being a part of one of the biggest trades in Tribe history when he and Luka Burzan were sent to the Brandon Wheat Kings for all-star defenceman Kale Clague.

Hartje was traded to the Ice at the trade deadline last season.

For his career, Hartje has 10 goals and 59 points in 140 WHL games.

The Warriors are back in action Friday when they host the Red Deer Rebels. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
