Red Deer finishes off series with Calgary, leaving two possible opponents for Moose Jaw

The Moose Jaw Warriors are a little over 24 hours away from finding out who their second-round opponent will be in the Western Hockey League playoffs.

With the Red Deer Rebels taking a 6-5 overtime victory over the Calgary Hitmen in Game 5 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series on Friday night to finish off that series, the Warriors are down to facing one of two teams.

And that’s all thanks to the Regina Pats pushing the Saskatoon Blades to a seventh and deciding game in their series.

Saskatoon took a 4-2 victory in Game 5 on Friday night, but Regina rebounded with a 5-3 win at the Brandt Centre on Saturday to force a seventh game on Monday night.

Should Saskatoon use home-ice advantage and finish off the series, the Warriors will face the Winnipeg Ice in the Eastern Conference semifinal, while the Blades take on the Red Deer Rebels.

A Regina win in Game 7 sees the Pats facing Winnipeg in round two, while the Warriors will take on Red Deer.

Both Winnipeg and Red Deer will have home-ice advantage against Moose jaw in the second round.
