Alarie, Gallant score twice each, Calvert has three-point effort as Moose Jaw takes 5-2 win in Regina

Moose Jaw's Atley Calvert had a goal and two assists in Regina on Saturday night.
It won’t come as any surprise for Moose Jaw Warriors fans to find out that not only is Eric Alarie is a very, very good hockey player, it looks like he’s gained a step or two over his stellar showing in the East Division Hub last season.

The 18-year-old left winger re-acquainted himself with the Western Hockey League on Saturday night, scoring two goals and adding an assist as the Warriors rolled to a 5-2 victory over the Regina Pats in Regina.

Alarie returned from the Florida Panthers development camp earlier in the week and looked all the part like a player who had just spent the better part of three weeks playing among potential professionals.

He scored the game’s first goal 7:55 into the contest, drew an assist on Matthew Gallant’s eventual game-winner midway through the second and capped off his showing with the game’s final goal with five minutes to play.

Moose Jaw Minor Hockey product Atley Calvert also had his best game of the pre-season, not 24 hours after being stymied on a host of scoring chances against the Pats at Mosaic Place. He’d cap the contest with a goal and two assists in addition to winning 11 of the 17 faceoffs he took on the night, Calvert’s best showing in a WHL Warriors uniform.

Gallant finished with two goals, with his second marker coming only 16 seconds after he scored his first of the pre-season. Denton Mateychuk picked up a pair of assists, while Slovakian import Robert Baco added an assist, giving him three goals and four points in four exhibition appearances.

Overage goaltender Carl Tetatchuk got the start and turned aside 32 shots to pick up his second win, the Warriors fired 29 shots at Regina’s Spencer Welke.

Zack Smith and Sloan Stanick scored for Regina, Connor Bedard was held without a point.

The Warriors will now take the next week to prepare for their home opener Friday against the Saskatoon Blades. Game time is 7 p.m., and be sure to check out the pre-game festivities in and around the rink leading up to puck drop.
