Vanier reaches boys volleyball Invitational semifinal

Central wins Tier II title in high school tournament

The Vanier Vikings have put together a solid regular season in the Moose Jaw high school boys volleyball league, and that’s translated into an impressive showing at the Moose Jaw Invitational tournament this past weekend.

The Vikings posted the top performance out of the seven league teams entered into the event, reaching the Tier I tournament semifinal where they dropped a 2-1 (22-25, 25-21, 15-13) decision to the Yorkton Raiders.

Yorkton would go on to defeat Rouleau in two close sets in the final 26-24, 25-23. Rouleau advanced with a 2-1 (25-17, 18-25, 15-12) win over Weyburn.

The Central Cyclones had a solid showing of their own, reaching the Tier II final where they took a 2-0 (25-17, 25-16) win over Lumsden. The Cyclones defeated Oxbow in the semifinal.

League action continues Tuesday night with Cornerstone at Avonlea (7 p.m.), Vanier at Central and Briercrest Christian at Riverview (both 8 p.m.). Girls league action will feature Peacock at Cornerstone and Vanier at Central, with both games at 6:20 p.m.
