Tigers take win over Warriors in Medicine Hat

Hardy scores lone goal, Evanoff makes 41 saves as Warriors fall 3-1
It was another close one for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but in the end they'd just fall short against the Tigers in Medicine Hat on Friday night, dropping a 3-1 decision.

The loss was the Warriors third in a row and saw the local Western Hockey League squad drop to 9-10-1-0 in the standings, four points back of the Brandon Wheat Kings for the final wild card playoff spot but with five games in hand.

The Tigers improved to 15-7-1-0 and are third in the Central Division.

Owen Hardy got the Warriors on the board first, beating a defenceman wide to the net and jamming a shot past Tiger netminder Garin Bjorklund.

Medicine Hat took advantage of a sustained run of pressure in the Warriors zone to tie the game before the first period was out, leading to Nick McCarry putting home a cross-ice pass from Trevor Longo,

The Tigers took the lead and added an insurance marker early in the second, as James Hamblin put Medicine Hat up 2-1 with 2:39 gone in the period before Tyler Preziuso added an insurance marker a little over a minute later.

That's where the score would remain the rest of the night, as Warriors netminder Adam Evanoff was once again solid in goal, turning aside 41 shots. The Tribe had their share of chances at the other end, if not the volume, as Bjorklund would make 23 stops on the night.

The Warriors were without Brayden Tracey in the line-up as he served the second game of his two-game suspension for a hit-to-the-head major against Swift Current.

The contest marked the first game for a pair Warriors prospects, as Jagger Firkus and Josh Hoekstra each made their regular season Western Hockey League debuts.

The Tribe return to action tonight against the Calgary Hitmen (7 p.m., Mosaic Place), with the team also holding their Wawanesa Toy Drive in support of the Salvation Army. Fans are encouraged to bring a new and unwrapped toy to the game, with all donations collected by volunteers prior to fans taking their seats. Be sure to note that this isn't the Teddy Bear Toss, that takes place on Saturday, Dec. 7 when the Warriors host the Prince Albert Raiders.
