Pee Wee Warriors tied for South Sask Division lead

Bantam, Midget squads looking for first win in early season play
It might be only a couple of games into the season, but the Moose Jaw Warriors are off to solid start in Saskatchewan AA Hockey League South Sask Pee Wee division.

The Warriors battled to a 2-2 tie with the Melville Millionaires in action on Saturday, Oct. 12 before picking up their first win 4-2 over the Milllionaires the following afternoon. As a result, four of the division’s six teams find themselves tied for first place with three points.

The opening contest saw the Warriors take a 1-0 lead early, as Trehvan McMorris scored their first goal of the season 2:04 into the game.

The second period was scoreless before Melville tied the contest 1-1 early in the third. Kasen Watterson scored shorthanded midway through the frame to put the Warriors up 2-1, but a Melville power-play goal with 6:21 to play would see the game end in a draw.

Casson Silbernagel was in goal for Moose Jaw.

The rematch saw the Warriors build a 4-0 lead before the midway mark of the second period. McMorris, Watterson, Kohen Millar and Jackson Folliott all scored for Moose Jaw. Cam Beisal earned the win in net.

The news wasn’t as good for the Moose Jaw Boston Pizza Main & Thatcher Warriors in the South Sask Bantam division, as they fell 13-1 in Weyburn on Saturday and 11-1 in Estevan Sunday. They now sit at 0-4 on the season.

Things were close early against Weyburn, as Ashton Glova scored at 8:15 to tie the game 1-1. The Wings took control from there, though, leading 5-1 after the first and 8-1 through two. Weyburn finished 4-for-5 on the power play, the Warriors were 0-for-9.

Noel Englot finished with three goals and seven points for the Wings.

Judah Goodnough made 21 saves in the Warriors net.

Estevan led 6-0 through two periods when Liam Fitzpatrick scored at 2:08 into the third to get Moose Jaw on the board. Tuckyr Shpiauk stopped 25 shots in goal.

Things were far closer for the Warriors in the South Sask Midget division, with a 4-2 loss to the Regina Capitals on Saturday and 3-2 overtime loss to the Prairie Storm Sunday.

Regina took a 3-0 lead out of the first period before Sheadon Prebushewski scored the lone goal of the second period and Jeremy Kohl scored on the power play midway through the third to pull the Warriors within one.

That would be as close as they’d get, though, despite a four-minute power play with 3:58 to play. Moose Jaw would finish 1-for-9 on the man advantage.

Jaxon Taupert made 37 saves in the Warriors net.

Things were even closer the next night against Prairie Storm, as the Warriors overcame a 2-0 deficit when Brennan Watterson scored with 6:41 left in the second and Lyndon Fell tied the game with 5:33 in regulation.

Sam Chittenden scored the game-winner for the Storm 3:58 into overtime.

Aiden Clegg made 41 stops for Moose Jaw.
