Generals fall to Blazers after fast start

Generals take early 3-0 lead but drop 7-4 decision in Midget AAA action

The Moose Jaw Generals will likely need to win out the rest of the season and have a bit of help from other teams in the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League after dropping a 7-4 decision to the Saskatoon Blazers on Sunday.

The loss saw the Generals' record fall to 14-22-2-1, setting them eight points back of the Saskatoon Contacts for the final playoff spot with five games remaining in the regular season.

It looked like the local squad was going to take care of business and then some in the early going, as Steven Kesslering, Jaxon Georget and Casey McDonald all scored to give Moose Jaw a 3-0 lead with 2:46 remaining in the first period.

The Blazers responded quickly, though, scoring twice in 20 seconds in the final two minutes of the period to close to within one.

It was all Saskatoon from that point on, as they scored four goals in the second period before Cody Davis got one back seven minutes into the third. A late insurance marker sealed things for the Blazers.

Jaxson Taupert made 46 saves for the Generals, who fired 26 shots at Blazers goaltender and Moose Jaw Warriors prospect Brett Mirwald.

The Generals are back in action Wednesday when they travel to Wilcox to face the Notre Dame Argos.
