The Moose Jaw Warriors have suddenly gotten into the habit of giving up goals in bunches.

And it’s led to the team taking three-straight tough losses in Western Hockey League action.

The Warriors surrendered five goals in 6:16 in the first half of the second period and would go on to fall 6-2 to the Saskatoon Blades in Saskatoon on Wednesday night.

It’s the third-straight game the Warriors have seen such a breakdown. A four-goal span in nine minutes led to a 5-4 loss to the Winnipeg Ice on Saturday night at Mosaic Place, and last Wednesday in Winnipeg, the Ice scored seven times in the third period to take a 10-2 win.

There were signs early against Saskatoon that things weren’t going to go well for the visiting team.

Saskatoon got things started 5:04 into the game when Rhett Rhinehart scored, and the Blades would go on to carry the play much of the opening frame --  including a run of nearly four straight minutes in the Warriors zone midway through the period -- but Moose Jaw was able to come out of things with some late pressure.

Then came the collapse.

Tristen Robins scored even strength with 2:10 to start the Blades' run, followed by Kyle Crnkovic shorthanded, Brandon Lisowsky four-on-four and Robins again on the power play for four goals in four minutes.

Carl Tetachuk replaced Warriors starter Brett Mirwald after the fifth goal, with Mirwald stopping nine of the 14 shots he faced.

Robins then finished off his hat trick with 8:26 gone for five Saskatoon goals in 6:16. He finished the night with four points and is now the WHL’s leading scorer with seven goals and 19 points in eight games.

Brayden Yager broke Saskatoon goaltender Nolan Maier’s shutout bid with 7:16 to play, taking a feed from Riley Niven in the slot and ripping a shot home.

Warriors defenceman Lucas Brenton then scored his first of the season 1:02 later to make things a little interesting in the final six minutes, but the Warriors would get no closer.

Tetachuk stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced, the Warriors had 29 shots on Maier.

The loss was the fourth in the row for Moose Jaw, who fell to 3-6-0-0 on the season. The Blades, meanwhile, improved to 7-1-1-1, with their only loss in regulation remaining their 7-1 defeat at the hands of the Warriors on opening night.

The Warriors are back in action Friday when they host the Medicine Hat Tigers. Game time is 7 p.m. at Mosaic Place.
