The Moose Jaw Canucks Black put together a solid campaign during the 2023 Baseball Regina 13U AAA season and as a result will now be one of the teams to watch during the provincial championships this coming weekend.

Coming off a regular season where they put together a 17-6 record and finished a single win from landing in second place, the Canucks put together a stellar showing in the league playoffs to set themselves up as a team to beat.

That included a 13-3 win over the Regina Padres in their quarter-final contest back on July 18 and a narrow 5-3 loss to the Regina White Sox in the league semifinal.

Moose Jaw opens the 12-team provincial tournament on Friday in Saskatoon and will play three round-robin games.

They play their first game at 6:30 p.m. Friday against the Swift Current 57’s, who put together an 11-11 record and finished in fourth place in the Baseball Regina loop. Game two goes at 12 p.m. Saturday against the Saskatoon Blue Jays, owners of the 4-18 record in the Baseball Saskatoon 13U AAA league. The Canucks then cap the preliminary round with what could be their toughest test in the Sask 5 Giants, who finished atop the Saskatoon AAA league with a 20-5 record. That contest goes at 6 p.m. Saturday.

The Regina Expos, Regina Padres, Yorkton Cardinals and Saskatoon Cardinals make up Pool B, while the Weyburn Beavers, Regina White Sox, Saskatoon A’s and Saskatoon Braves will play in Pool C.

The top team from each of the three pools will be joined by the team with the fourth-best record in the semifinals at 12 p.m. Sunday with the gold medal game going at 3 p.m.

The Baseball Sask 13U AAA champion will advance to the Baseball Canada 13U championship in Woodstock, Ont. from Aug. 24-27.
