UPDATED: Arguin off to perfect start at senior curling provincials

Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre rink picks up victories in first three games at championship in Rosetown

Moose Jaw’s Lorraine Arguin is off to a perfect start at the 2019 SaskCurl senior women’s provincial championships.

Arguin and her Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre rink of third Donda Lee Deis, second Shelly Urquhart and lead Connie Fritzler won their first three games at the tournament in Rosetown, taking a 7-2 win over Lemberg’s Kim Hodson and defeating Saskatoon’s Merle Kopach 6-3 before needing only four ends to defeat Swift Current's Connie Rayner.

Against Hodson, Arguin scored two in the first and fourth ends on her way to building a 5-2 lead through five. She added a single point in the sixth and stole one in the seventh before running Hodson out of rocks.

Arguin found herself in a back-and-forth battle with Kopach, as after building a 4-1 lead through four ends, she surrendered single points the next two frames to see her edge cut to one. A deuce in the seventh took care of any comeback concerns, though, and Arguin held on for the victory.

A three-ender to kick off her game against Rayner (0-3) set the tone the rest of the way, as she went ahead 6-1 through three ends and then stole a pair in four to shake hands early.

Arguin’s 3-0 record sees her tied for first with Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson, Wadena’s Delores Syrota and Yorkton's Cathy Inglis. She next faces Inglis during the evening draw tonight.
