Arguin misses playoffs at senior curling provincials

Losses to Syrota, Anderson see Arguin finish round robin with 4-3 record, miss playoffs by single win

Back-to-back losses in her final two games of the round robin proved to be too much for Moose Jaw’s Lorraine Arguin to overcome at the senior women’s provincial curling championship.

Arguin and her rink of third Donda Lee Deis, second Shelly Urquhart and lead Connie Fritzler lost 5-2 toWadena’s Delores Syrota during the evening draw Friday in Rosetown before falling 6-1 to Saskatoon’s Sherry Anderson Saturday morning in a must-win game for her playoff hopes.

Arguin finished the round robin at 4-3, missing the three-team playoff by a single win.

Against Syrota, Arguin found herself trailing 3-1 at the break before Syrota stole one in the sixth to go up 4-1. Arguin got one back in the seventh and actually had a shot to tie the game in the eighth before Syrota took one to close out the 5-2 win.

The Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre foursome didn’t have any luck in their final round robin game as, with the game tied 1-1 through three ends, Anderson would pick up one in the fourth and steal the next three ends before Arguin brought things to an early end after the seventh.

Syrota finished the round robin with a perfect 7-0 to advance to the championship final on Sunday morning; Anderson (5-2) and Yorkton’s Cathy Inglis (6-1) play in the semifinal this afternoon.
