AAA Warriors shut out Mintos

Wilson has three points, Ernst earns shutout in first home start since WHL Cup
If there was any question as to whether or not the Moose Jaw Warriors belong near the top of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League, this weekend answered it.

The Warriors took three of a possible four points from two of the three teams ahead of them in the standings, first in a shootout loss to the Saskatoon Blazers on Saturday afternoon and then even more impressively in a 6-0 win over the Prince Albert Mintos on Sunday at Mosaic Place.

Wyatt Wilson scored once and added a pair of assists to lead the Warriors offence as they built a 2-0 lead in the first period and led 4-0 through two.

Team captain Atley Calvert made his return to the line-up after making his Western Hockey League debut with the Warriors over the weekend and scored a pair of goals, while Davis Fry, Kyle Forster and Maximus Wanner all added single markers. Caelan Fitzpatrick and Connor McGrath had two assists each.

Dylan Ernst was in goal for the shutout, turning aside all 20 shots he faced for his first clean sheet of the season. It was his first home start since backstopping Saskatchewan to gold at the WHL Cup during the Oct. 25 weekend.

The Warriors improved to 10-4-1-0 on the season and are now a point back of the Mintos for third place, three back of the Saskatoon Blazers for second and four back of the Saskatoon Contacts for top spot in the SMAAAHL.

More importantly, the Warriors had secured fourth place on Saturday heading into Remembrance Day, and that officially landed them a spot in the Mac's AAA Midget Hockey Tournament in Calgary Dec. 26 to Jan. 1. It'll mark their first appearance in the prestigious international event since 2016-17 when, as the Moose Jaw Generals, they finished 1-3 in their round robin pool.

Next league action for the Warriors is Wednesday when they travel to Regina to face the Pat Canadians.
