AAA Warriors open Mac's with win over Calgary Royals

Moose Jaw takes 4-2 victory, to face B.C.'s Cariboo Cougars Friday night.

The Moose Jaw AAA Warriors got off to the start they were hoping for at the Mac's Midget AAA tournament in Calgary on Thursday.

The Warriors opened the prestigious and heavily scouted event with a 4-2 win over the Calgary Royals, who came into the tournament with a 7-13-3 record, good enough for seventh place in the eight team Alberta Midget Hockey League Chrysler Division.

Moose Jaw, meanwhile, holds down top spot in the Sask Midget AAA Hockey League at 21-8-1-0.

Scoring information was unavailable as of this writing.

The Warriors continue the Mac's on Friday night when they take on the B.C. Major Midget AAA league's Cariboo Cougars, owners of a 17-5-1-1 record and third place in their 11-team loop. That game can be purchased to watch on the tournament website, with puck drop at 9 p.m. Moose Jaw time.

The final two round robin games will see the Warriors take on Airdrie CFR Bisons (3-17-2, eighth AMHL Chrysler Division) at 8 a.m. Sunday before facing down the St. Albert Nektar Raiders (18-1-3, first AMHL Dodge Division) at 11:30 a.m. Monday. That final round robin contest will be one of the marquee match-ups of the round robin as both teams hold down first place in their respective leagues.

The top two teams from each round robin pool advance to the quarter-finals beginning Tuesday.
