All the waiting, practicing and preparation are about to pay off for Skylar Ackerman.
The Moose Jaw skip and her Saskatoon Nutana rink are mere hours away from making their first appearance at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts womens’ national curling championship in Calgary.
Ackerman, third Ashley Thevenot, second Taylor Stremick and lead Kaylin Skinner went through the pre-tournament proceedings on Thursday, including media day and a tour of the WinSport Arena facilities.
The foursome also received their Scotties necklaces from event sponsor Kruger, something that’s always a special moment for first-timers at the championship.
“We’ve been dreaming about these necklaces for years and are incredibly honoured to get to wear them every day,” Ackerman said in a social media post. “Thank you Kruger!”
It all becomes as real as can be at 7 p.m., when Team Saskatchewan takes on Prince Edward Island’s Jane DiCarlo in the tournament’s opening draw.
Here’s a quick look at the rest of Ackerman’s games for the remainder of the round robin, with draws being broadcast on TSN throughout the event.
