15U Canucks post pair of comeback wins over Buffalos

Moose Jaw takes 5-4 and 9-8 wins in AAA league action Sunday
The Moose Jaw 15U Canucks have earned a reputation for being a scrappy bunch through the first month of the season, and their two AAA league contests against the Regina Buffalos on Sunday at Swarbrick Diamond offered the latest example.

The first game of the day saw the Canucks trailing 4-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning before they sent five runs across the plate in the frame to take a 5-4 win; game two saw a 7-3 deficit after the first three innings before they sent six runs across the plate through the final three to take a 9-8 victory.

Canucks 5, Buffalos 4

Dylan Reed led the Canucks with two of their four hits to key their offence in the opening contest as they scored all their runs in the fifth; Regina sent two across the plate in the first to go along with a single marker in the third and one of their own in the top of the fifth.

Dylan Anderson got the start and went six innings, tossing 18 first-pitch strikes that helped him rack up six strikeouts and before giving way to Nathan Varjassy to close out the game in seventh. The duo held Regina to only six hits throughout.

Canucks 9, Buffalos 8

Dylan Montgomery helped the Canucks get things done late in game two, finishing the game with three hits and three RBIs to lead the way at the plate.

Things looked good for Moose Jaw early, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second and a single marker in the second for an early 3-1 lead. Regina exploded for six runs in the top of the third, though, setting the stage for another Canucks rally as they scored one in the fourth and four more in the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. The Buffalos wouldn’t go quietly, as they tied things up in their half of the sixth, only to have the Canucks retake the lead in the bottom of the inning.

Carson Reed got the start and went 2 2/3 innings and struck out three before giving way to Brayden Ursu, who held the fort until the seventh when Varjassy picked up his second save in as many attempts.

The Canucks are back in action Tuesday when the travel to Regina before playing a doubleheader Saturday in Weyburn.
