UPDATED: Youth confirmed deceased after drowning in valley

The Moose Jaw Police Service has confirmed that a 16-year-old youth has died after a report of a drowning incident on Friday.

The police service and the Saskatchewan Coroner's Office were conducting an investigation into this incident that occurred in Wakamow Valley. Since the teen has been confirmed deceased, the coroner's office has taken over the investigation. 

The police have no further information at this time.


ORIGINAL STORY

Just before 6 p.m. this evening, the Moose Jaw Police Service, Fire Department, and EMS responded to Wakamow Valley for a report of a youth that had been swimming and had gone underwater and could not be located.

Bystanders were unable to locate the youth. Emergency services then arrived and started a search, locating the youth who was in medical distress.

STARS Air Ambulance was contacted and attended to the scene. The youth has been transported to Regina for further medical intervention.

The identity of the youth is not being released at this time. No other details have been released.
