The vaccine eligibility range has now lowered to include youth in the first dose program in Saskatchewan, but public health is reminding parents that youth are only approved for one of two vaccine brands currently in clinics.
Beginning on May 18, youth aged 16 and older are now eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine from any pharmacy, walk-in or drive-through clinic, or mobile clinic.
Booked appointments are also available, although residents are encouraged to book appointments with pharmacies as public health clinics have fewer available appointments due to vaccine allocations.
Public health noted that only the Pfizer vaccine has been approved for use in individuals under the age of 18. Eligible youth must attend a clinic or pharmacy that is delivering Pfizer doses to receive their vaccine.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority also confirmed that a school-based immunization program will be offered to students aged 16-17 beginning in June. In the meantime, eligible youth are still able to attend any public vaccine clinic or pharmacy to receive their first dose.
The walk-in clinic in Moose Jaw will be open on May 19 and 20, delivering Pfizer vaccines to all individuals eligible for first or second doses.
Regina’s drive-through clinic at Evraz Place is also providing Pfizer doses to residents from May 19-22, open from noon until 7:30 p.m.
