It might have felt more like a nice spring day than the middle of winter, but that just helped make Wakamow Valley’s Winterfest celebration that much more enjoyable on Sunday afternoon.
Hundreds of visitors gathered in and around Kiwanis River Park for the annual event, which features a host of winter activities for folks to try out.
That included snowshoeing and skiing, as despite the overall lack of snow, there was still enough on the ground for families to go for a short hike on the trails or go for a ski tour of Plaxton’s Lake.
Visitors could enjoy a hot dog and marshmallow roasting around the River Park firepit, where a large crowd could be found most of the afternoon.
Folks could also go on a bird-watching expedition, try out disc golf and visit with the Prairie Percherons before taking a ride on their always-popular sleigh tour of the Valley.
If there was one drawback, it was that the consistently warm weather has left the Wakamow Oval speed skating track unusable, but a lack of skating did little to dampen enthusiasm on the day.
