The Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors went through a bit of a tough stretch while dealing with the top teams in the league heading into their games this past weekend, but a two-game set against the last-place Yorkton Maulers saw the local crew find all sorts of success.

The Warriors battled to a 4-3 win over Yorkton on Saturday before rolling to a 10-0 win in the rematch Sunday, with both contests at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Moose Jaw is now 16-13-2-0 on the season to sit in seventh place in the 12-team league, two points back of fifth-place Prince Albert.

Warriors 4, Yorkton 3

Moose Jaw didn’t get off to a great start in their opening game of the weekend, as the Maulers had goals from Shaden Duliak and Alex Morrison in the first period to take a 2-0 lead.

The second was all Warriors, though, as Dylan Duzan, Carson Deichert, Caleb Potter and Jake Briltz all scored to make it 4-2 through two. Bryce Boughen had three assists in the period.

The four goals came in a span of just over three minutes midway through the third, with Deichert and Potter’s goals coming 34 seconds apart.

Ryder Woods got one back for Yorkton in the third, but they’d get no closer.

Luke McKechnie had 21 saves in the win, Wyatt Bouvier stopped 29 in the loss.

Warriors 10, Yorkton 0

Things went as good as they could have in the rematch, with Moose Jaw leading 2-0 after the first and 5-0 through two before pouring in five more goals in the final period.

Ryan Bain enjoyed his best outing of the season and wasn’t overly tested, stopping all 15 shots he faced for the shutout.

Noah Thul also had his best game as a Warrior, putting up a hat trick and four points to lead the offence. Deichert, Duzan, Chase Petersen and Jonah Pinel all had a goal and an assist, while Boughen, Britlz and Kanyan Unger all had single markers. Max Threinen added two assists.

Moose Jaw had 20 shots on Bouvier over the first two periods and 14 on Owen Sinclair in the final frame.

The WINMAR Warriors are back in action Friday when they host the 14-14-2-0 Tisdale Trojans at 7:30 p.m. followed by the 11-17-3-0 Saskatoon Contacts at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, with both games at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
