WINMAR Warriors drop one-goal decision in Tisdale

Third-period surge not enough as Warriors fall 3-2 to Trojans

WINMAR Warriors forward Chase Peterson -- here in action against the Battlefords earlier this season -- scored for the Warriors in the third period against Tisdale.

The Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors made things interesting against the Tisdale Trojans on Saturday afternoon, but couldn’t quite complete a third-period comeback.

As a result, the Warriors would go on to drop a 3-2 decision in  Sask Male AAA Hockey League action -- but with the amount of parity in the league this season, they’re still in the thick of things when it comes to a spot in the Circle K Classic.

The Warriors fell to 4-4 with the loss and are in a three-team tie for fourth place in the 12-team league. Traditionally, the top four teams at the beginning of November qualify for the Classic -- formerly the Mac’s tournament -- and will see action in the highly scouted event during the Christmas holidays.

Tisdale looked to have things in control through the first two periods, thanks to a goal from Jaxon Kehrig in the opening frame and markers from Peyton Kostiuk and Dayton Reschny in the second.

The Warriors wouldn’t go quietly, though. Chase Peterson got his team back within two with 5:32 to play in the contest and 1:12 later, Brennan Brown made it a one-goal game. Moose Jaw pulled goaltender Ryan Bain for the final 2:14 but would be unable to find the tying goal.

Bain capped his game with 32 saves, while the Warriors had 43 shots on the Trojans’ Jackson Dunn.

The WINMAR Warriors will now have a week and a half off before hosting the Swift Current Legionnaires at the Moose Jaw Events Centre on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Game time is 7 p.m.
