Win, tie, loss in recent action for Mustangs

Novice 1 Mustangs lose close one to Weyburn, tie Swift Current; Bantams dominate Predators
It was a bit of the good, a bit of the bad and a bit of the ‘meh’ for the Moose Jaw Mustangs in recent South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League action.

The Novice 1 Mustangs battled to a 3-3 tie with the Swift Current Rampage MW before dropping a hard-fought 4-3 decision to the Weyburn Thrashers, while the Bantam Mustangs had no such difficulty, rolling to a 7-1 win over the Regina Predators.

Novice 1 Mustangs 3, Swift Current 3

Caiden Arnott scored his second goal of the game 15 seconds into the third period, and it appeared as if the marker would stand as the game winner until the Rampage scored with 2:49 remaining to tie things 3-3.

Luke Turner scored Moose Jaw’s other goal as they took a 2-1 lead out of the first period.

Weyburn 4, Novice 1 Mustangs 3

The Mustangs found themselves chasing much of the game, with a series of penalties in the second period making any kind of comeback difficult.

Weyburn led 1-0 after the first and 2-1 through two before a pair of goals 33 seconds apart with five minutes remaining in the game gave the Thrashers a 4-1 edge.

Moose Jaw wouldn’t go quietly, though, as Arnott scored with 1:03 left in the game and Chase Folk with seven seconds left before time ran out on the comeback.

Turner scored the Mustangs other goal.

Reid Yeroschak was in goal for both contests.

Bantam Mustangs 7, Predators 1

Carter Michaluk scored three times and added an assist as the Mustangs took a comfortable win over Regina.

Rowan Calvert added two goals and an assist while Josh Johnson had a goal and two helpers as Moose Jaw built a 3-1 lead in the first and led 5-1 through two. Davin Williams scored their other marker.

Walker Williams and Luke Andrews split goaltending duties.
