Moose Jaw’s Partners against Violence Committee brings together a number of local service agencies, as well as local RCMP and Moose Jaw Police to work towards building a safer community for all.

White Ribbon Campaign

The White Ribbon Campaign began in 1991, started by a group of Canadian men. It has since spread to 60 countries and is the largest effort in the world of men working together to end gender-based violence. Wearing a white ribbon is a personal pledge to never commit, condone or remain silent about gender-based violence. Wearing a white ribbon is a way of saying “Our future has no violence against women.”

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25 and ends on International Human Rights Day on December 10.

The 16 Days of Activism also include the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women on December 6. This is a time to both reflect on violence against women and to take action to end it. On December 6, 1989, 13 female students and a female administrator at l'École Polytechnique de Montréal were murdered because they were women.

A woman or girl is killed every 2.5 days in Canada. Saskatchewan has the highest rate of police reported domestic violence in all the provinces. Family and gender-based violence is not a private matter, it affects all of us. As a community we will support each other through the pain and trauma that surrounds this violence.

Become a part of the Solution

One of the most important things you can do to help promote gender equity, healthy relationships, positive ideals of masculinity, and help end gender-based violence is to speak out against it.

  • PROMOTE respect, dignity and equality
  • SPEAK OUT against attitudes and behaviors that contribute to gender-based violence
  • FIND OUT how to help when you suspect someone you know is a victim or offender of violence

You can pick up a White Ribbon at Tax Team — 339 Main St N — during business hours or visit the Partners Against Violence table at the December 6th Warrior game.
