The Moose Jaw Warriors will be hoping for plenty of scenes like this during the 2023-24 season.

If everything goes according to plan for the Moose Jaw Warriors in the 2023-24 season, they’ll once again be among the top teams in the Western Hockey League.

With the potential return of luminaries like captain Denton Mateychuk, forward Jagger Firkus hometown hero Atley Calvert and the recently drafted Brayden Yager leading a talented crew of youngsters, the sky could be the limit.

And it all starts on Friday, Sept. 22 when they make the trip to Hockeytown North to take on the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Western Hockey League released the preseason and regular season schedules for the 2023-24 campaign recently, with the Warriors taking to the ice at the Moose Jaw Events Centre for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 23 when they host the Brandon Wheat Kings.

October will be the second-busiest month for the Warriors this season as they play 11 games, six at home, including a four-game home stand -- their longest of the season -- from Oct. 10 through Oct. 17.

The Warriors play nine games in November, 10 in December, 10 in January and 12 in February before wrapping things up with 10 games in March.

Moose Jaw’s major road trip will see the team play eight games in 14 days, beginning in Swift Current on Monday, Feb. 19. They arrive in the U.S. Division for the first time in four years on Friday, Feb, 23 when they visit the Tri-City Americans, and will wrap up the swing on Sunday, Mar. 3 when they make their first visit to Wenatchee to face the Wild.

The Warriors and Regina Pats will renew hostilities on Wednesday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Brandt Centre in Regina, with the Pats making their first trip to Moose Jaw on Tuesday, Oct. 17.

The two teams will play eight times, including twice during the final week of the season.

Moose Jaw will also play four pre-season games, visiting the Swift Current Broncos on Thursday, Sept. 7 before hosting the Broncos at the brand new Southland Co-Op Centre in Assiniboia on Saturday, Sept. 9. The Warriors close out their pre-season with a home-and-home against the Brandon Wheat Kings on Friday, Sept. 15 and Saturday, Sept. 16.
