The Moose Jaw Warriors took an interesting and unique approach to their Hockey Fights Cancer night during the 2021-22 season and the initiative proved so successful they’re taking the same approach this season.

The Warriors will host the annual event on Friday, Nov. 18 against the Swift Current Broncos at the Moose Jaw Events Centre and will once again be wearing the special lavender-coloured jerseys featuring pictures of those who have battled cancer inside the player numbers.

The mosaic-like pattern turned out exceptionally well in its first iteration last season, with the jerseys auctioned off during the contest and leading to a substantial donation to the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.

As was the case last year, fans will be able to submit pictures of a loved one who they would like to honour through the Crushed Can Souvenir Store website, www.thecrushedcan.com, beginning Monday, Sept. 12. The cost for each submission is $20 and space is very limited, with around 100 spots available.

Each photo will need to be high resolution and able to be scanned at 300 dpi, with a bright background preferred. The deadline for photo submissions is Friday, Sept. 25.

As was the case last year, the jerseys will be sold through a silent auction throughout the night, and those who wish to donate in other ways will be able to do so at the game.

Founded in 1998 by the NHL and NHL Players’ Association, Hockey Fights Cancer unites the hockey community in support of cancer patients and their families. November is Hockey Fights Cancer Month across the NHL, with Canadian Hockey League teams across the country also joining in on the initiative.
