Trailing 5-2 early in the second period against the Melville Millionaires in Melville on Saturday afternoon, the Warriors would score four straight to take a 6-5 lead midway through the third. They wouldn’t be able to hold on for the win, though, as Melville rallied for a pair of goals in the final 5:35 -- including the game winner with 1:01 to play -- to take a 7-6 win.
The Warriors found themselves trailing 2-1 after the first, with Ryan Gibbs scoring their first goal of the season on the power play at 9:22 of the frame.
Hunter Scott would tie things 1:12 into the second, but the Millionaires would score three goals over the next five minutes to build their 5-2 edge.
Cue the comeback.
Gibbs scored his second at 12:09 of the second to get the Warriors back within a pair before Carter Hudyma would score twice in 11 seconds late in the frame to tie things 5-5.
Austin Smith then completed the rally, giving the Warriors the lead at the 11:50 mark of the third.
It looked as positive could be at that point, but Kane Domres would tie the game with 5:35 remaining and Maddox Temple would net the game winner for Melville with just over a minute remaining.
Grayson Hrenyk made 32 saves for the Warriors, who had 22 shots of their own. The Warriors were 3-for-8 on the power play, Melville 3-for-4.
The Warriors are tentatively back in action for a rematch with Melville on Sunday afternoon at the Kinsmen, but that contest is in jeopardy due to the upcoming winter storm.
