The Moose Jaw Warriors will once again be taking part in the National Hockey League’s Hockey Fights Cancer event, and it once again promises to be a special night.

The initiative-- which involves all 60 Canadian Hockey League clubs -- has become an annual tradition throughout the month of November and acts as a major fundraiser for the Canadian Cancer Society.

This year’s event will take place on Saturday, Nov. 20 against the Regina Pats at Mosaic Place, with the Warriors’ jerseys as the featured aspect of the evening.

The special-edition mauve-purple sweaters -- the colour of the Hockey Fights Cancer logo -- will include a unique aspect for those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Fans were asked to submit photos of loved ones they wished to honour and the final result is exceptional: the numbers on the back of each jersey feature those photos in a mosaic, adding a special personal touch to each.

Four of those game-worn jerseys -- Daemon Hunt, Ryder Korczak, Denton Mateychuk and Brayden Yager -- are currently available for auction at the Warriors online store, www.thecrushedcan.com. They’re already proving to be a hot ticket, with bids at $300 for the Korczak and Yager sweaters and $250 for Mateychuk and Hunt. The auction will close on Sunday, Nov. 21 at 8 p.m., with bids only accepted online.

As for game night, game-worn jerseys from the entire team, including an extra set from the four previously mentioned players, will be available through a silent auction on the concourse of Mosaic Place. The auction will open at 6 p.m. and will close when the puck drops at the beginning of the third period.

The jersey auction is only one of the initiatives planned for the game. There will also be a Hockey Fights Cancer chuck-a-puck, with prizes including a Hockey Fights Cancer team-signed jersey as well as four player-signed Canadian Cancer Society pucks. ‘I Fight For’ cards will be for sale and posted on the arena concourse throughout the night and purple glow sticks will also be for sale.

After the game, fans will be invited to ice level to sign a loved-ones name on the ice for a special Hockey Fights Cancer photo.

The net proceeds from the evening will go to the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Cancer Society.
