The Moose Jaw Warriors made their first trade of the season on Thursday afternoon and looked to shore up their defensive corps in the process

The Warriors added 2005-born defenceman Aiden Ziprick in a deal with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, sending a sixth-round pick in the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft the other way.

“Adding Aiden brings us more depth and options to our backend,” Warriors general manager Jason Ripplinger said in announcing the deal. “Aiden does a good job moving pucks and with his skating ability, he’s able to play in all situations.”

A six-foot-one, 174-pound product of Russel, Man., Ziprick played in both games for the Hurricanes this season and picked up a pair of assists. He began last season with the MJHL’s Waywayseecappo Wolverines, putting up six goals and 12 points in 23 Junior A contests before being called up by the Hurricanes in December and adding a single assist in 30 Western Hockey League contests.

Ziprick was selected in the seventh round, 148th overall by Lethbridge in the 2020 WHL Prospects Draft.

Ziprick is expected to be in the line-up on Friday night when the Warriors host the Brandon Wheat Kings. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
