Wanner on way back to Warriors after stop in Oilers camp

Edmonton Oilers prospect returned to WHL club on Wednesday morning
Max Wanner
Max Wanner is on his way back to Moose Jaw after spending the last week in Edmonton Oilers camp.
And then there was one.

The Edmonton Oilers announced Wednesday afternoon that defenceman Max Wanner has been returned to the Moose Jaw Warriors, leaving only forward Martin Rysavy still in National Hockey League training camp.

Wanner, 18, was selected in the seventh round, 212th overall by the Oilers in this summer’s Entry Draft and ended up going straight into the team’s main camp, which began on Sept. 22.

Wanner suited up in three preseason games with the Warriors prior to leaving for Edmonton and put up a goal and four points to finish the exhibition schedule fourth in team scoring.

The Warriors welcomed back team captain Daemon Hunt (Minnesota), forwards Ryder Korczak (New York Rangers) and Eric Alarie (Florida) and defenceman Cole Jordan (Calgary) over the last week, meaning only Martin Rysavy is currenly in NHL camp. The Blue Jackets are in the midst of the three-game-in-three-night span, meaning he could be returned as soon as Thursday.

The Warriors are on the ice for their 2021-22 home opener on Friday night when they host the Saskatoon Blades. Game time is 7 p.m., but be sure to check out the pre-game horseshoe tournament in the parking lot across from Mosaic Place’s east entrance as well as the host of activities taking place outside the arena.

Fans are also reminded that COVID-19 vaccination protocols are in place, meaning those in attendance will have to provide proof of double vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test to gain entrance to Mosaic Place.
