With the Moose Jaw High School Athletic Association senior basketball campaign entering the final weeks of the regular season, there’s still plenty to play for in both the boys and girls leagues.

On the girls' side of things, a big part of that is due to the result from the lone game on Tuesday night, as the Vanier Spirits took a 76-48 victory over the Central Cyclones.

The win saw Vanier improve to 4-2 and move within a single win of the first-place Peacock Toilers, with the Spirits having two games remaining on their regular-season schedule and Peacock one.

The Spirits turned in a solid showing from start to finish Wednesday, as they took a 21-14 lead out of the first quarter and led by six at the half. A third-quarter surge saw Vanier extend their edge to 57-41, and they’d continue to roll to their 28-point win.

Offence came from a bunch of different angles for the Spirits, as Waverly Demassi put up 16 points, Ava Kindiak scored 13, Feona Tolentino added 13 and Kate Waldenberger scored 12 for the victors.

Ava Nichols led Central with 15 points, while Addy Simpson contributed 12 to their cause and Ellah Flanagan 10.

The scheduled game between Peacock and Lumsden was forfeited by the Angels due to team illness.

All eyes now turn to the next two weeks of action, as Peacock (6-1) closes out their regular season on Wednesday, Mar. 1 at Central. Vanier, meanwhile, hosts winless Assiniboia on Thursday, Feb. 16 and cap their campaign on Tuesday, Feb, 28 in Assiniboia.

In senior boys action, league-leading Peacock (4-1) is at Central (3-1) on Thursday in a likely first-place showdown, with Central at Vanier (0-5) to wrap up the regular season on Feb. 28.

The playoffs begin with the girls fourth / fifth-place game on Mar. 7, followed by the semifinals on Mar. 9 and city championship on Mar. 14 at Sask Polytechnic.
