The Moose Jaw U13 AA Mavericks have finally had a chance to play some games -- and have said games end with a concrete result.

After tying their first two contests against the Weyburn Gold Wings at the beginning of the month and seeing their games against Balcarres last week cancelled, the Mavericks were finally able to return to the ice this past weekend.

And they couldn’t have asked for a better turn of events, taking 6-2 and 5-2 wins over the Parkland Fire.

The 15U AA Mavericks saw a bit of the good and a bit of the bad in their two contests, winning 8-3 over Weyburn on Friday before losing their first game of the season 5-4 in the rematch.

The U13 Mavericks improved to 2-0-2 and sit sixth in the South standings, the U15 Mavericks are now 3-1-1 and second in the South division.

U13 Mavericks 6, Parkland 2

Things were close in the early going against Parkland, as Jayden Babich scored the Mavericks’ first two goals in the first period and the two teams went into the dressing room tied 2-2.

Keianna McDonald would give Moose Jaw the lead 1:10 into the second, though, and the Mavericks would never look back.

Babich would finish off her hat trick in the third period, while Addison Lamb and Danielle Greenough added their other third period markers to secure the win.

Callie Bell was in goal for the victory.

U13 Mavericks 5, Parkland 2

The return match in Melville was the exact opposite.

Zoe Chesney, Mikaela Stephenson and Tristyn Smith all scored in the first period -- with the latter two goals coming 44 seconds apart in the final two minutes -- as Moose Jaw built a 3-0 lead.

Jewel Schwindt would make it 4-0 midway through the second, and after Parkland got a pair back halfway through the third, Chesney would cap scoring for the Mavericks with 6:23 to play.

Bell was again the winning goaltender.

The U13 Mavericks are back in action Saturday when they host the Gold Wings and Sunday when they travel to Weyburn.

U15 Mavericks 8, Weyburn 3

The Mavericks couldn’t have asked for a better outing in the first game against the Wings.
Especially Kaydance Ray.

Ray would figure into all but one of the Mavericks’ goals at the Red Knight Arena, scoring four times and adding three assists in the commanding win.

Morgan Loney would score once and add three assists, Jenika Stevenson had two goals and three points as Moose Jaw led 1-0 after the first and 4-2 through two before tacking on four third-period goals.

Arlie Fleet had their ther marker.

Sara Umana picked up the win in goal.

Weyburn 5, U15 Mavericks 4

Kaleigh McCann scored for the Gold Wings with three minutes remaining to give her team the one-goal win.

Ray had another two goals and an assist for the Mavs, who trailed 3-1 after the first but scored the only two goals of the second period to send things into the final frame tied 3-3.

Katryna Mattern and Kiana Hrechka had the other Moose Jaw goals.

Umana was in net for the loss.

The U15 Mavericks are back on the ice Saturday in Swift Current before hosting the Colts at the Red Knight Arena on Sunday afternoon.
