Two former residents of Valley View Centre have a new address.

Earlier today, Social Services Minister Paul Merriman celebrated the grand opening of a new Light of the Prairies group home in Saskatoon.

The home will provide residential supports for the two former VVC residents. The group home is made possible through $489,263 in annual government funding.

Light of the Prairies has been supporting people with intellectual disabilities since 1988. The Ministry of Social Services has contracts with Light of the Prairies for seven group homes, two group living homes, day program supports, and supported living programs.

“It is a great privilege for us to support these individuals as they enjoy their new home and community,” Light of the Prairies executive director Kevin Martens said in a press release. “We look forward to many days filled with new experiences and greater independence.”

The government plans to have all Valley View Centre residents moved by December 2019.
