The Moose Jaw Fire Department responded to a call in Tuxford yesterday evening that kept crew members busy throughout the night.

The fire certainly proved to be challenging.

"The conditions were very cold. It was tough," said Fire Chief Rod Montgomery. "Getting water was a bit of a problem; we did get a third party to supply with us water. Despite our best efforts, the house was destroyed by the fire...Our crews worked throughout the night. They were there until 7 this morning."

Montgomery expanded on some of the challenges firefighters faced.

"We had to relay water all the time, so that was a bit of a problem. The building was well constructed and because of that, the led to greater issues — to get at spaces. We went defensive after about an hour of being at that fire. It was basically fought from the outside and from there we just continued to put water on it. What I can tell you is that we put between 25,000 and 30,000 litres on that fire."

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Montgomery says the office of the Saskatchewan Fire Commissioner will investigate further.
