Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is under fire for his involvement in WE Charity scandal — and Canadians are not happy.

According to data from the non-profit Angus Reid Institute, Trudeau’s approval numbers are dropping. Fifty-four per cent of those polled say they disapprove of the PM. His approval rating has dropped 11 points since May. This comes after approval ratings had increased briefly due to the government’s pandemic response.

Canadians are certainly concerned, with 59 per cent of those polled saying this is a serious issue. Just 29 per cent say the issue has been overblown by the media and opposition politicians. Saskatchewan residents feel most strongly, with 77 per cent of respondents in the province identifying the issue as serious.

Thirty-seven per cent of Canadians believe the government’s decisions in regard to the charity may constitute a criminal act that warrants investigation by police.

Despite these feelings, 56 per cent of those surveyed feel the issue will have only a minor impact on the Liberal government.

Quebec (43 per cent) and Saskatchewan (39 per cent) residents are more likely to say this is a major issue that could threaten the future of the government.
