MOOSE JAW — The Moose Jaw and District Senior Citizens Association (MJDSCA) is inviting residents to declutter with purpose by taking part in its upcoming community garage sale at the Timothy Eaton Centre.

The event will be held on Friday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. inside the centre’s XYZ Hall, offering locals a weatherproof, one-day alternative to the traditional yard sale format.

“Anyone can rent a table for $20 and bring their items to sell,” said Tanya Legare, administrator for the MJDSCA. “Whatever (participants) sell from their table, they get to keep the proceeds. If they don’t want to sell (any items in person at the sale) but still want to help, they can donate items to the centre instead — those proceeds will go toward supporting our programs.”

While originally planned as a two-day event, organizers chose to scale back to one day due to limited table bookings, and are now encouraging anyone interested to act quickly while spots are still available.

“We still have a few spaces left,” Legare said. “It’s a great option for anyone who wants to have a garage sale but isn’t sure about the weather — because we’re inside, you don’t have to worry about rain or wind ruining your setup.”

Proceeds from the sale of donated items will go toward the Eaton Centre’s ongoing programming and operations, which include everything from fitness and recreation for adults over the age of 50 to hobby groups and affordable meals at the in-house café.

“The funds will (help support) our regular programming by keeping the lights on, keeping the café running, and making sure we can keep offering the many things our members enjoy.”

In the lead-up to the sale, the centre is already showcasing some donated items in its card room, giving early visitors a chance to browse and buy ahead of time.

“It’s kind of like a perpetual garage sale,” Legare explained. “From now until June 20, people can walk through and if they see something they like, they can take it home right away.”

The centre is also offering to pick up donated items for residents who may not have a way to drop them off. All donations must be clean and in good working condition, Legare noted.

The Eaton Café will be open during the event from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., making it easy for bargain hunters to stop in for a coffee or light meal while browsing for one-of-a-kind bargains and charming curiosities.

“We can’t wait to see everybody,” Legare said. “It’s a great way to support the centre, clean out a few things you don’t need anymore, and maybe even find a hidden treasure or two.”

The Timothy Eaton Centre is located at 510 Main Street North. For more information, or to book a table, call 306-694-4223 or email [email protected].
