The Moose Jaw Comedy Jam to hold open mic comedy at Ruchi's Masala House

The next show will be held Friday, Oct. 6 and will kick off at 7 p.m.

For lovers of a good laugh, couples looking for that ideal romantic venue, and anyone looking for something to do on a Friday night, Ruchi's Masala House might have exactly what you are looking for.

The ‘Catch a Rising Moose’ stand-up comedy event will take place amidst delicious food and good company and is scheduled for this Friday evening.

The presentation will be put on by The Moose Jaw Comedy Jam, organized by Garret Delaurier.

The upcoming comedy night is the second iteration of a new idea, and according to Delaurier, it’s scheduled to continue if there is enough support from the public.

“I’ve always wanted to do standup comedy, and I’m from Moose Jaw. There’s no place to do that here,” Delaurier said. After moving to Calgary for a period of time recently, Delaurier said he now wants to make his own comedy scene in Moose Jaw.

“If people like it, maybe we will do it more often,” he said.

The comedy club's format includes a booked show and an open mic variant, which allows anyone interested in giving standup comedy a try the opportunity to test their mettle. Established comedians will also be given a regular schedule to work with.

The show on Friday will be an open mic event, which means anyone in attendance can speak with Delaurier and give their best effort to get the room laughing.

Due to the nature of the comedy event and with the format being open mic, it’s not advisable to bring the family. The audience is intended to be more of an open-minded and mature crowd.

“You don’t know what people are going to say,” said Delaurier.

Tickets are $5.00 per person and can be purchased at the door.

The comedy event will take place on Friday, Oct. 6 at Ruchi's Masala House and is set to begin at 7 p.m.

Future events with the Comedy Jam are scheduled to take place at Ruchi's Masala House on the first Friday of every month, and it’s intended to be an ongoing monthly program.
