The Moose Jaw Camera Club to hold first meeting of 2023 on Monday, Jan. 9

Members and those interested welcome to attend

The Moose Jaw Camera Club is having its first monthly meeting of 2023 on Monday, Jan. 9 at 7:00 p.m. at Cosmo Centre.

All club members are requested to join the meeting and anyone interested in becoming a member is also invited.

“This is one of our regular meetings. We have a contest for the members that will be judged by the members. We also have a workshop on ‘Still Life’ photography,” said Rob Harden, event co-ordinator of the Moose Jaw Camera Club.

He says this is one of their regular meetings, the first this year.  In this meeting, the club members will share their photography experiences, discuss matters on the future of the club, receive instructions and exchange ideas among themselves.

Within this meeting, the club is also hosting their own photo competition. For participating in the competition, club members need to bring their photographs for judging. The photographs need to be printed on unmatted paper – either 8x10 or 11x14. The printed photographs need to be mounted on a rigid surface.

The theme of the exhibition is open. This means any photographs can be submitted for participation.

Harden says the competition is in print, rather than digital images on phones or computers. He also said, with prints everyone can see them rather than staring at a screen all the time. Having unmatted print versions helps the participant to print in various forms such as panoramic style, which is 14 inches across and about six inches high or an 11x14 print size.

With matte paper, the print-size is limited to 8x10.

“I think a few people are still thinking about joining a camera club," Harden said.

Every first Monday of each month, a club meeting is held where members can come together to socialize and learn from each other.  This year, the club is offering membership at half price.

Another meet-up will be held on Saturday, Jan. 14 at Wakamow Valley’s Outdoor Rink and Crockicurl to shoot Speed Skating from 1 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Harden wants to show their members how to shoot sports action photographs. How to freeze fast-moving actions and how to add blurry fast-moving motion to the photographs. The club will also have a “Hands On” workshop with a Still-Life based theme to follow the afternoon outing at the skating oval.

There will also be hot chocolate available to enjoy.
