Test games show Scotties ice in Mosaic Place nearly perfect

Plenty of curl while maintaining keeness expected to make for some interesting shotmaking decisions through women's national curling championship

With the Scotties Tournament of Hearts set to kick off action this Friday evening with the Wild Card game between Jennifer Jones and Tracy Fleury, local Curl Moose Jaw rinks had a chance to test out the new ice surface in Mosaic Place on Wednesday night.

Initial reports indicated the surface installed by legendary icemaker Dave Merklinger and his crew of volunteers had turned out perfectly, offering up to six feet of curl and running 25 seconds from hogline to hogline, giving players keen yet swingy conditions to play with.

A second night of test games is set to take place Thursday evening, with the University of Regina men’s and women’s teams practising in preparation for USport nationals, along with Tankard champion Matt Dunstone and his Regina Highland foursome taking the ice for a practice session in anticipation of next month’s Brier. Game time is expected to be around 6 p.m. and fans are welcome.

Here’s a look at some of the action from Wednesday night and be sure to follow MooseJawToday.com for draw-by-draw results and features throughout the event.
