Today at around 2:30 p.m., the Moose Jaw Fire Department answered a distress call from the Southside Apartments about a suspicious smoke smell within the building at the corner of First Ave. SW and Lillooet St. W.

“There was a smell of smoke in the building and all three floors were checked by the fire department,” Fire Chief Rod Montgomery said.

The fire chief says they are waiting for the owner of the building to show up, but it appears there was not much of a serious issue with the distress call.
He also said one of the residents was smelling smoke and made the distress call.

The duty firemen confirmed there was a smell of smoke in the building.

Right now, firemen are evacuating the residents for safety reasons and inspecting to understand the unknown cause of the smoke. Therefore, it was called off as a false alarm.
