South Sask Elite settle for tie with Barracuda

Rematch from opening game in league play far closer than first blowout
The first time the South Saskatchewan Elite and Regina Barracuda met in Sask ‘A’ Bantam Lacrosse League action at Mosaic Place a week ago, the result was decidedly one-sided for the home team.

The second meeting in Regina on Tuesday night? A much different story.

The two teams found themselves in a back-and-forth contest that saw two third period goals from the Elite nearly steal the win before Regina scored late and settle for a 4-4 draw.

Regina took the lead early on a goal from Jett Lamb and held their 1-0 edge through the first period. Two goals nine seconds apart midway through the second – from Carter Michaluk at 9:40 and Nathan Wagstaff at 9:49 – put the Elite ahead, but that edge would last barely a minute as Ryan MacDonald tied things 2-2 only 1:02 after Wagstaff’s marker.

Jax Jeannot would add another goal for the Barracuda before the second period was over, setting the stage for a dramatic final frame.

There, Wagstaff tied the game with 12:27 remaining before Rowan Calvert gave South Sask the lead with 7:55 to play. Only 1:24 after Calvert’s goal, MacDonald added his second of the game to tie things 4-4, and there the score would remain.

Wagstaff also added two assists for the Elite. Walker Williams and Luke Andrews split time in goal.

Next action for South Sask is June 7 when they host the Barracuda at the Kinsmen Sportsplex.
