The South Central Early Childhood Intervention Program (ECIP) is holding its third annual craft and trade show this weekend to raise funds for its children’s programming.
The event takes place on Saturday, May 11 at Zion United Church from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will be more than 35 vendors from across Saskatchewan selling their wares, including new businesses and a few returning favourites, said Nancy Rosnes, executive director of ECIP.
Some of the crowd-pleasers that are coming back include Watkins, Norwex and Sunset Gourmet. Some of the new vendors include BarMK, which sells embroidery; Big Muddy Gifts; Joy of Berry Garden; Running Wild Animal Rescue, which might bring pets to adopt; and Wilson Farms 1884, which could bring a baby goat.
“Come on out and have a good time,” added Rosnes. “It might be a good time for you to find that last minute gift item for Mother’s Day. Or, if you haven’t found anything, bring your mother out and she can go shopping and pick her own items.”
ECIP will use the funds raised for the day-to-day programming that the organization puts on for the children it supports, she explained.
The non-profit organization provides family-focused, home-based services to families. The children involved in the programs are children with special needs who, from birth to school age, are experiencing a cognitive or physical disability, development delay, or are at risk for development delays. ECIP works with the family to enhance all areas of the child's development, including, speech and language, motor skills, and cognitive and social skills.
“ECIP kind of fills that gap out there. We’ve been around … in Moose Jaw, we’re coming up on 36 years,” Rosnes continued. “We just fill that gap that’s not there for kiddos that have any sort of development delay or diagnosed delay.”
The organization works with families in the home so they don’t have to travel to see specialists or attend appointments. ECIP can also attend appointments with families and provide parents with advice on what their child’s development milestones and goals should be.
