The Moose Jaw WINMAR Warriors have had a tough time with the schedulemaker as of late.

A few days after dropping both ends of a weekend doubleheader in close games with the second-place Saskatoon Blazers, the Warriors endured another tough outing thanks to a 5-1 loss at the hands of the first-place Regina Pat Canadians on Tuesday in Regina.

As a result, the Warriors now have a 14-13-2 record in the Sask Male AAA Hockey League standings and sit in seventh place, two points up on Tisdale for the final playoff spot and four points back of fourth-place Warman.

Tuesday night’s outing was all about the first period, with Regina scoring all five of their goals in the opening frame.

Ellis Mieyette had two of those markers, with Steven Steranka, Ryan McDonald and Casey Brown all adding single markers.

Caleb Potter got one back for Moose Jaw 25 seconds into the second period, but they’d be unable to get any closer as the game progressed.

Ryan Bain got the start in goal for the Warriors but gave way to Luke McKechnie after allowing the first three goals. McKechnie went on to make 20 saves in 50:34 of work.

Taylor Tabashniuk had 27 stops for the Pat Canadians.

The WINMAR Warriors are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 13 when the Yorkton Maulers are in town. Game time is 1:30 p.m. at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.
