Slim majority of area rural municipalities gain population

Eighteen of 31 rural municipalities in the Moose Jaw trading area posted increases in population in the 2021 Census of Canada.

Eighteen of 31 rural municipalities in the Moose Jaw trading area posted increases in population in the 2021 Census of Canada.

The Rural Municipality of Moose Jaw gained 70 residents for 1,207 in the five years ended last year.

The RM population has steadily declined from 1,388 in the 2001 census.

In other local RMs, Baildon lost 37 to 583; Caron gained 33 to 603; Hillsborough lost four to 101; Shamrock lost nine for 194; Gravelbourg lost 55 for 317 and Rodgers at Coderre gained 15 for 105.

The RM of Marquis lost nine for 303; Eyebrow gained 25 for 220; Huron at Tugaske gained seven for 205; Enfield at Central Butte gained 42 to 268; and the RM of Maple Bush at Riverhurst gained 21 to 213.

The RM of Wheatlands at Mortlach gained eight for 157; the RM of Chaplin gained 14 for 122; and Gravelbourg lost 55 to 220.

The RM of Redburn at Rouleau gained three to 253; Elmsthorpe at Avonlea lost 31 to 195; RM of Pense gained 67 to 441; and the RM of Craik gained 13 for 272.

To the south the RM of Stonehenge at Assiniboia gained five to 385; the RM of Sutton at Mossbank lost 16 to 330; RM of Lake Johnstone at Mossbank lost 30 for 140; Terrell at Spring Valley lost 31 to 210.

The RM of Old Post at Wood Mountain lost 25 to 352; Poplar Valley at  Rockglen gained one to 196; Wood River at Lafleche gained 33 to 466, RM of Waverley at Glentworth lost 38 to 295;  Mankota lost three for 289; the RM of Harte Butte at Coronach gained 11 for 263; and the RM of Glen McPherson at Mankota gained four to 76.
