Another resident in their 80s from the far north region has reportedly died from complications related to COVID-19, marking the sixth virus-related death in Saskatchewan.

The province is also reporting 17 new confirmed cases, bringing the provincial total to 383 with 86 cases active.

Eleven of those new cases are from the La Loche area, adding to the 29 cases earlier attributed to the outbreak at the oilsands camp in northern Alberta. Another five of the new cases are from the north region, and one is from the Saskatoon area.

The 13 new cases reported in Lloydminster are connected to a cluster in Lloydminster hospital, where transmission in the hospital setting has infected 5 healthcare workers and eight patients.

Patients are being co-horted in separate units within the hospital, and while COVID-19 patients are still being admitted to Lloydminster Hospital, non-COVID-19 patients may be diverted to another hospital.

Emergency services and obstetrical services remain open at Lloydminster Hospital, and all health care workers who were in close contact with any of the cases are being tested as the contact investigation continues.

There are no new recoveries to report today, and the total number of recoveries remains at 291.

Two more individuals are in hospital for a total of 10, with seven receiving inpatient care and three in intensive care.

Of the total 383 cases in the province, 137 are travel-related, 154 are community or household transmission related, 35 have no known exposures, and 57 are still under investigation by Public Health.

Saskatchewan has performed 29,106 COVID-19 tests. National data from the Public Health Agency of Canada as of April 27 shows that the per capita rate of testing in the province was 22,917 per million population, exceeding the national rate of 19,709 per million population.

Public health officials remind residents that mass gatherings are still not allowed, even if attendees are practising social distancing. Only gatherings of 10 people or less are permitted at this time, under the current public health order.
