The Vanier Spirits moved into a tie for second place in the Moose Jaw high school girls basketball league on Friday night after taking a 76-43 victory over the Peacock Toilers.
The Spirits improved to 4-3 on the season with the victory and now have the same number of wins as the Lumsden Angels, who sit at 4-2 on the campaign.
While the final score showed a relatively comfortable win for Vanier, things were plenty close in the early going, as the Spirits only led by two 15-13 through the first 10 minutes of the contest.
That all changed in the second quarter, though, as Vanier would outscore Peacock 22-10 to take a 37-23 lead into the half. It was smooth sailing for the Spirits from there, as they led 59-34 through three quarters before going on to their 33-point win.
It was a far cry from the first meeting of the season between the two teams, a 64-60 Peacock victory back on Dec. 16.
Vanier’s balance was a key to their success, as all but one of their 11 players hit the scoresheet. That included a 17-point showing from Grace Waldenberger, 15 points from Ava Kindiak and 10 from Piper Olson.
Hannah Miller was the only Toilers shooter to crack double digits with a 15-point outing.
Peacock fell to 3-4 with the loss.
No score was reported from the game between Central and Notre Dame in Wilcox.
League action continues Thursday, Feb. 24 with Peacock at Notre Dame in a boys game re-scheduled from Jan. 15.
