The second dose portion of the Saskatchewan vaccine plan begins today, on schedule with previous announcements from public health officials

Residents aged 85 and older or who received their first dose before Feb. 15 may now receive their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine from any public health walk-in, drive-through or mobile clinic, or at a pharmacy participating in the vaccination program.

Second doses are also now available to several categories of cancer patients, including those in treatment, those who are bone marrow or solid organ transplant recipients and those who have been diagnosed with blood cancer in the last two years. Eligibility letters have been sent to these individuals already, according to public health.

Appointments at mass immunization clinics, typically booked online or by phone, are not yet available for second doses. Online booking is expected to become available this week, to be announced later.

Residents heading out to receive their second doses will be required to know the date of their first immunization as well as the brand received, which were both noted on the immunization card provided.

For those who have misplaced their immunization card from their first dose, information on the date and brand of their vaccine can be obtained by calling the Vaccine Call Centre at 1-833-SASKVAX (727-5829) or checking their MySaskHealthRecord account online.

Second doses are currently being delivered to match the brand of the first dose, said the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Eligibility is also being planned using a 13-week window from initial doses, and ages will be lowered according to that timeframe as the program continues.

Vaccine brand availability is now being shared alongside walk-in and drive-through clinic details to allow residents to attend the appropriate locations for their second dose shots.

Pharmacies and booked appointments will also be confirming vaccine brand availability at the time appointments are booked.
