UPDATED: Search is over for teen missing in Buffalo Pound Lake

UPDATED: The search has ended as of 6:30 a.m. on June 21. The missing was located deceased in the shallows near where he was last seen. A member of the public made the discovery. His family has been notified.

UPDATED: The search has ended as of 6:30 a.m. on June 21. The missing teen was located deceased in the shallows near where he was last seen. A member of the public made the discovery.

His family has been notified.

The RCMP said in a release that their thoughts are with the deceased's family during this difficult time. 

The RCMP also thanked members of the public who respected the direction and instruction of first responders during the search.


Moose Jaw RCMP received a report in the evening of Friday, June 17 that a swimmer was unaccounted for in Buffalo Pound Lake at Barney's Beach. 

The initial investigation indicated that five teenagers were walking and swimming along the shore when wind and waves swept one of them out into the lake. 

Moose Jaw RCMP, Moose Jaw Search and Rescue, STARS Air Ambulance, and conservation officers with the Provincial Protective Services Branch all attended the scene.

The search for the missing teen continues as of Monday morning.

Police and searchers will be in the area.

The public is asked to avoid Barney's Beach and to respect all direction given by first responders.
